Another lost boy joins the Collective. Zac, tall, slim, and shy, has accepted the invitation offered to him. He has completed his initial training and he is here, with Master Ballard, his sponsor, on the auction stage, although today the house is empty and the curtains are closed. Master Ballard asks him the now familiar questions, « Name? Age? Will you do all that is asked of you? Will you submit to your Masters? » Once again, Zac answers, « Yes. »
This time the man says, « Take off your clothes. » Zac stands there frozen. This is it. Somehow, Zac knows without being told, though he assumes not today, this is the auction block where he will be sold. The man asks again, with an edge to his voice, and Zac obeys. With a gesture from Master Ballard the boy crawls onto the block and presents himself, naked, for the man to use.
